In conjunction with Starwood celebrating the signing of its 100th hotel in Greater China, Sheraton Shanghai Hotel and Residences, Pudong and Four Points by Sheraton Shanghai, Pudong had their own unique way of sharing this milestone by lending a helping hand to the children in the Shanghai Children's Medical Center in Pudong to build up their small "Sheraton Love" library.
China World Hotel, Beijing recently participated in Care for Children's successful and well-attended Village Fete, with a sale of gourmet chocolates, sweets and pastries, as well as coffee, tea, and other beverages. Proceeds of the hotel's sale were donated to Care for Children, to contribute to the organization's initiatives in finding loving foster families for Chinese orphans.
Christophe Lajus, the general manager of Crowne Plaza Fudan Shanghai, and members of the hotel management team visited Yangpu Social Welfare Institution to celebrate the Mid-autumn Festival together with the senior citizens resident there. A gift of homemade mooncakes was presented to the senior citizens on behalf of the hotel.
Marriott hotels in Shanghai, Suzhou, Ninbo, Wuxi and Wuhan joined forces with Bank of China's Great Wall Card to host a charity golf day at Binhai Golf 2008, in support of Safe Kids China. The director of Safe Kids China, Monica Cui, received a check for CNY200,000 from representatives of the Marriott family of hotels.
At a celebration hosted by the United Nations in China and the China Disabled Persons' Federation to mark the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, and to recognize the exemplary deeds of outstanding persons with disabilities, Tai Lihua taught participants the sign language for "Participation, Sports and Development". Tai is the director and leading dancer of the China Disabled Persons' Performing Art Troupe.
Traders Fudu Hotel, Changzhou celebrated Mid-autumn Festival together with 87 children from Sichuan Wenchuan disaster area. Games, candies, and festival moon cakes were presented to the children by hotel executives and staff.
Jamaican Olympic legend Usain Bolt visited the Westin Beijing Financial Street for a presentation ceremony. In the Plush lounge of the hotel the fastest man in the world personally donated USD50,000 to the Red Cross to help children affected by the Sichuan earthquake.
Yangpu District held a farewell ceremony for the students who came to Shanghai from Dujiangyan for a summer camp. Christophe Lajus, general manager of Crowne Plaza Fudan Shanghai, and Fan Guangzeng, deputy general manager, presented them with some souvenirs at the ceremony.
In mid July Sheraton Sanya Resort launched a fundraising activity for UNICEF Challenge 2008. Every Friday until August 31 participants can enjoy a run on Yalong Bay Beach — followed by "happy hour" at the Sea & Sand Beach Bar. For as little as CNY20, each participant can make a difference and help a child survive.
This summer Chi Heng Foundation arranged for over 50 children impacted by HIV/AIDS to come to Shanghai to enjoy their summer camp. Accor Hospitality China arranged two hotel visits for them to Grand Mercure Hongqiao Shanghai. During their stay at the hotel, they took part in a specially arranged napkin folding training session after enjoying coffee, soft drinks, fruit, and snacks.
This year IHG hotels in Shanghai have launched a charity activity drive with Project Hope to help underprivileged areas to build Hope Schools. Recently they have been raising money through various projects with the aim of building at least two schools. Hope Bear charity is one of these money raising projects. General managers of the IHG Shanghai cluster hold the bears embarking on this charity journey.
USA Men's basketball players and legends recently visited the Shanghai Children's Medical Center to meet its young patients — including a nine-year old boy who is being treated for injuries sustained during May's earthquake in Sichuan Province. NBA players like Dominique Wilkins joined Lily Hsu, program director for Project HOPE, and members of SCMC staff to give encouragement to the young earthquake victim.
