China has closed down more than 530 audio-video service websites, including several major BitTorrent websites such as BTChina.net, as a result of its strengthened efforts to crack down on illegal online audio-video service providers.
The China Audio and Video Copyright Collective Management Association, which has been brewing for about ten years, has been formally set up in Beijing to implement China's "Copyright Collective Management Rule".
China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television has published a second announcement on its official website on the results of online audio and video program service providers in which SARFT says it has asked eight websites to stop running audio and video services and has issued a warning to another 20 websites.
Xunlei.com, a downloading service provider in China, has begun to partner with China's mainstream online content providers such as bbvod.net, jeboo.com, 51tv.net and vale.com.cn in an effort to provide legitimate online content.
