China National Petroleum Corporation has started construction of the nation's first carbon capture and storage project.

The Chinese state-owned mining and energy company, Shenhua Group, is developing a carbon dioxide capture and storage project that is reported to be the first of its kind in China, in Erdos, Inner Mongolia.

According to the British newspaper, The Financial Times, during his visit to Beijing, U.S. President Barack Obama will sign an agreement with Chinese President Hu Jintao to promote cooperation on clean energy between the two countries.

Huaneng Shidongkou No. 2 Power Plant Carbon Capture project, which is reported by Chinese media to be the largest of its kind in the world, will come to Shanghai.

BP and the Chinese Academy of Sciences are to establish the Clean Energy Commercialisation Centre joint venture in Shanghai, with an investment of CNY500 million to exploit clean energy technologies developed by Chinese research institutions.
