Following a leak of waste water into the Tingjiang river, Zijin Mining Group Company has announced that the local government in the accident area has ordered the company to curb its production at its Zijinshan gold plant.

The Fujian-based Zijin Mining Group Company has officially apologized for waste water leaking into Tingjiang River and has also announced seven remedial measures to eliminate the pollution.

Zijin Mining Group Company, the largest listed gold mining company in China, has stated that it has halted production at a plant in east China due to waste water leakage.

A group of 317 companies from the Nanhai District, Foshan in Guangdong, has signed a commitment letter with the local environment department on environmental protection.

The Shanghai Environmental Department has published a blacklist of 721 companies accused of environmental violations and the list is reported to include many famous organizations.

China says that, over the next two to three years, it will invest more than CNY90 billion on waste water treatment to ensure drinking water safety.

Li Yuan, the deputy director of the Ecological Division of China's Ministry of Environmental Protection, has disclosed to local media that China will arrange a CNY1 billion special fund this year for environment protection and pollution control in the rural areas of the country.
