China Development Bank says it will try its best to increase the coverage of loans for medical services in the rural areas across the country and issue a total of more than RMB5 billion loan to help the rural areas improve their medical service within this year.

Chen Yuan, president of CDB, says that the bank will try to offer loans to the medical sectors of the major counties in the country so as to help solve problems in drinking water and difficulty in seeking a doctor.

From 2008, CDB will ask each of its subsidiaries to increase their bank loan amount by 5% year on year, which will be used in the medical sector with an emphasis on the prevention of schistosome and improvement of medical facilities in the poverty-stricken areas. CDB says it will set up a coordination team to make sure that the loans for the medical service can be issued in time.

Since 2005, CDB has been strengthening its support in rural medical service. In the first half of this year alone, it provided RMB2.41 billion loan for the medical sectors in the rural areas, of which RMB1.19 billion has been used for rural medicine and health, and RMB1.22 billion on public health.
