Hong Kong's Environmental Protection Department is inviting contractors with relevant experience and expertise to submit tenders for tenancies of the third batch of lots in EcoPark Phase I in Tuen Mun Area 38.

To promote the local recycling and environmental industry, successful tenderers will be required to carry out recycling activities of designated waste type within the EcoPark, a spokesman for EPD said in a press release. The recycling operations of the third batch of lots include waste plastics and organic waste, excluding waste cooking oil and chemical waste such as lube oil.

"The two tenants of the second batch of lots awarded for recycling of locally-generated waste electrical and electronic equipment and manufacturing of biodiesel from waste cooking oil in December 2007 are building up their business operations scheduled for opening by end 2008," the spokesman said.

The EcoPark was set up to provide the recycling and environmental industry with long-term and well-equipped land at affordable rent to encourage the industry to put more investment into advanced and value-added recycling processes.
