China's Ministry of Environmental Protection has formally published the Chinese theme and logo for this year's World Environment Day, which falls on June 5.

"Green Olympics and Environmentally-friendly Society" is the Chinese theme for the World Environment Day which falls on June 5, which is different from "Kick the Habit! Towards a Low Carbon Economy" — the World Environment Day's global slogan.

MEP hopes that Chinese society will be mobilized to join in the environmental protection initiative based on the Chinese theme and help promote energy saving and emissions reduction. MEP says it will also organize a series of activities, including contests on environmental knowledge and promoting the energy saving and emission reduction measures and achievements to commemorate the day.

Recognizing that climate change is becoming the defining issue of our era, the United Nations Environment Programme is asking countries, companies and communities to focus on greenhouse gas emissions and how to reduce them. The World Environment Day will highlight resources and initiatives that promote low carbon economies and lifestyles, such as improved energy efficiency, alternative energy sources, forest conservation and eco-friendly consumption.
