China Mobile Eliminates CNY260 Million Communications Fee For Earthquake Area

China Mobile said it had removed a total of CNY260 million in communications fees for about 3.329 million mobile phone users in the earthquake area of Sichuan from May 12 to May 31.

During that period, about 1.05 million people reportedly entered the five regions of Chengdu, Mianyang, Deyang, Guangyuan and Aba Tibetan and Qiang Ethnic Autonomous Prefecture from out of Sichuan Province and they were exempted from a total of CNY104 million. In addition, up to 2.28 million people moved to the five regions from other cities in Sichuan and were exempted from paying CNY158 million.

To better support Sichuan's earthquake relief, China Mobile decided to exempt all the communications fees, including monthly rental charges, domestic roaming fees, domestic long distance calling fees, international long distance calling fees, SMS, MMS, GPRS roaming fees and related service fees from users who entered Chengdu, Mianyang, Deyang, Guangyuan and Aba Tibetan and Qiang Ethnic Autonomous Prefecture between May 12 and May 31.
