The past two months have seen eight traffic accidents on tour buses of Beijing travel agencies, which have caused the deaths of eight people and more than 60 injuries.
The Beijing Municipal Tourism Bureau held an emergency meeting on August 3, emphasizing the safety standards for travel agencies.
During the meeting, the Bureau published and criticized eight travel agencies related to the traffic accidents. They are China Supreme Harmony Travel Service, China Swan International Tours, China Peace International Tourism Company, Beijing Shenzhouyou Travel Agency, Beijing Youlian Travel Agency, Beijing Youth Travel Service, China Ocean Tour and Saite Travel Service.
BMTB is also asking travel agencies to check all their buses and to have safety training for their drivers and tour guides.
According to Xiong Yumei, the deputy director general of Beijing Municipal Tourism Bureau, they will issue the "Beijing Travel Agency Safety Management Standard" soon.
