Shanghai Food and Drug Administration has disclosed to the local media that Shanghai will set up a real-time meat monitoring system in 2009 to manage 600 food markets of the city.<\/p>\n
Upon the completion of the system, pork vendors will be issued a ticket with a special 10-digit number which contains such information as the name of the wholesale market, the meat series number, the quantity, weight, and price of the meat. With this number, consumers can also log onto Shanghai Pork Circulation Safety Information Tracking System to find out from which wholesale market and butcher's site the pork came from.<\/p>\n
In addition, Shanghai will strengthen on the inspection of pork this year. It will encourage the integration of the meat safety tracking system among different departments.
