Gu Binglin, president of China's prestigious Tsinghua University, has disclosed to the local media three cases of academic misconduct that occurred in the university since 2004.<\/p>\n
According to Gu, the three irregularities include the theft of others' academic achievements by a teacher of the University's Medical School in 2005, the plagiarizing of a thesis by a candidate for a doctor's degree from the University's Department of Electrical Engineering in 2004, and the submission of a false resume by a teacher at the university in 2008.<\/p>\n
Gu stated that Tsinghua University punishes faculties involved in academic misconduct by warnings, downgrading, or even dismissal. In his opinion, the root of these problems is due to the eagerness for instant success and quick profits among the faculties and this is also related to the over-intervention of the administrative department and inadequate review of experts in academic evaluation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
