Liu Jie, deputy director of Bureau of Telecommunication Administration, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, has disclosed to local media that MIIT will initiate five measures to regulate the registration of website domain names in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n
The five measures include building and improving the blacklist system to prevent domain name owners on the blacklist from reapplying for a domain name; strictly carrying out the regulation that requires domain name applicants to submit authentic, accurate and complete personal information; not providing any service to domain names that have not been officially registered; suspending domain name services when the concerned websites are found to be involved in pornography or violating relevant regulations; straightening out problems related to domain name registration. <\/p>\n
MIIT is worried that some websites are choosing to change domain names or take other various measures to evade the government's supervision in order to spread pornography and other illegal content in China. To this end, MIIT now requires all domain name registration service providers to strictly implement the domain name management rule to better supervise websites.<\/p>\n
Chinese domain name supervision organization China Internet Network Information Center announced that starting from 09:00 on December 14, 2009, it closed domain name registrations for individual users who are not purchasing domains on behalf of companies or organizations. Prior to this sudden announcement, China's central television station criticized domain name registration service providers and agencies for false, inaccurate or incomplete information in the registration process.
