The Shanghai Environmental Department has published a blacklist of 721 companies accused of environmental violations and the list is reported to include many famous organizations.<\/p>\n
This is the second blacklist that the department has published following the list of 420 environmental violators that it released on World Environment Day, June 5, 2009.<\/p>\n
It is learned that among the violators, 374 companies, accounting for 52% of the total, were exposed for not following the environmental approval procedures or for failing to undergo the relevant inspections for their environment facilities.<\/p>\n
A further 159 companies, including Shanghai Chuanqi Food Comoany Ltd., Shanghai Hengshoutang Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. and Shanghai Leiyunshang Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. were exposed for violating water pollution prevention rules.<\/p>\n
A total 151 companies, most of which are food service providers, were put on the blacklist for violations of the gas pollution control rules. And 27 companies were put on the list because of breaches of the solid waste pollution control rules. Some supermarkets were blacklisted due to violations of the noise pollution control rules.
