The Environment Development Center of China's Ministry of Environmental Protection has signed a memorandum of understanding with the British Standards Institution on the certification of low-carbon products.<\/p>\n
Under the MOU, the parties will jointly work on programs for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, including conducting research on the certification of low-carbon products.<\/p>\n
Liu Zhiquan, an official from MEP, said that the signing of the MOU is beneficial to research on low-carbon products and the promotion of a low-carbon economy. In addition it will also play a sound role in low-carbon cooperation between the two countries.<\/p>\n
To address the issue of climate change China has set a target of reducing its carbon dioxide emissions in 2020 by 40% to 45% compared with those of 2005.<\/p>\n
As a national standards organization, BSI is engaged in improving the global environment. In October 2008, BSI released the world's first carbon traceability standard for goods and in 2009 it released an energy management standard to help companies cut energy costs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
