The Fujian-based Zijin Mining Group Company has officially apologized for waste water leaking into Tingjiang River and has also announced seven remedial measures to eliminate the pollution.<\/p>\n
In an open letter of apology dated July 19, 2010, the company's board of directors expressed their deep regret regarding the incident and for failing to disclose information on the leak in a proper manner. They also stated that they would like to sincerely apologize for causing substantial losses to the fish farmers located on the reservoir downstream of the mine and for having a harmful impact on the whole of society.<\/p>\n
The company representatives added that the main reason for the incident was that the company did not handle the balance between business development and environmental protection and the public interests in a proper manner.<\/p>\n
