A strike is reported to have broken out on July 21, 2010 at the Guangzhou, Guangdong plant of Japanese electronics firm Omron.<\/p>\n

Workers at the plant are said to be demanding a salary increase of 40%: equivalent to a rise of CNY500 per month from the current average wage of CNY1,270.<\/p>\n

A spokesman for Omron Guangzhou said that the number of employees going on a strike was between 200 and 300. However a representative of the strikers said the number was as high as 400 to 500.<\/p>\n

In 2005, the Japanese firm established its Chinese automotive electronics components production base, Omron (Guangzhou) Automotive Electronics Company.<\/p>\n

Since May 2010, a number of foreign companies with factories in Guangzhou have reported strikes by workers demanding higher pay.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
