Additional international spending of around EUR80 million is to be invested to build up a network in Asia in the next few years, allowing the company to offer better technical service, and the investments will be used, for example, to build additional compounding plants in China and India.<\/p>\n<p>Bayer says its willingness as an inventor company to help shape the future and its determination to come up with innovations that benefit humankind are part of its sustainable development initiatives. Of special importance in this respect are new products emerging from Bayer's active substance research, the consumer health business, the growth markets of Asia and new areas such as biotechnology and nanotechnology. Bayer has defined five principles through which the concept of sustainability is anchored within the company: quality, partnership, obligation, a systematic approach and global validity.<\/p>\n<p>To this end, a Color Competence Center (CCC) is to be built at the compounding plant in Shanghai, which has been in production since 2005. Combined with the Polymer Research and Development Center in Pudong, Shanghai, the region will become an important center for Asian and Chinese customers.<\/p>\n<p>A compounding plant with an integrated Color Competence Center is to come into operation in southern China in the first half of 2008. The next step, planned for the end of 2008, is to use the same concept to invest in Bayer MaterialScience's new site in New Delhi. In this way, several locations in Asia will be added to the successful network of existing compounding plants with integrated Color Competence Centers in Italy, United States and Thailand.<\/p>\n<p>With sales of EUR10.7 billion in 2005, Bayer MaterialScience AG is one of the world's largest polymer manufacturers.
