According to China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Australian Quarantine Laws forbid mooncakes that have stuffing made from egg and meat to enter Australia.
Those who disobey the law will be fined AUD60,000 to 2.2 million, or even put into jail for up to ten years.
Now that the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival is near, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is reminding Chinese citizens to not mail mooncakes to their friends and relatives in Australia, or to bring mooncakes as gifts when they visit Australia. Mooncakes are a traditional gift during the Mid-Autumn Festival.
At present, there are many kinds of mooncakes already on the Australia market, and, if necessary, Chinese can buy mooncakes when they arrive in Australia.
