The Beijing Municipal Bureau of Tourist and the Beijing Tourism Association made a clarification this week, saying that after a thorough analysis, no star-grade hotels in Beijing except for the two sub-contracted restaurants at the Beijing International Hotel have been found to have bought the poisonous detergents reported last week.
The Beijing Municipal Bureau of Tourist and the Beijing Tourism Association issued an emergency notice to the star-grade hotels across the city as soon as report came out, asking each of them to conduct a self-check over their goods and to stop using fake and harmful detergents.
So far, no star-grade hotels in the city have said to been using the concerned detergents as the check report shows, said Li Nini, deputy director of Beijing Tourism Hotel Bureau.
In addition, the government agencies now say the illegal detergent was only sold to a few restaurants, including two inside the Beijing International Hotel. Fortunately, at that hotel it was only used to clean the floor and not used on any eating or cooking utensils. However, the Department of Industry and Commerce says it will punish the restaurants for purchasing the goods.
