Following anti-Chinese riots in the Solomon Islands, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued an advisory for Chinese tourists to avoid the region.

The foreign ministry said in an advisory that the situation remains tense and the possibility of further riots still exists.

Violence erupted on the South Pacific island chain last Tuesday after Snyder Rini was elected prime minister.

Nearly 300 Chinese were evacuated from the Solomon Islands on chartered aircraft provided by Beijing over the weekend.
