China Pledges To Fulfill Obligations Of Human Rights Council

Liu Jianchao, spokesperson from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, says that the Chinese government has always been dedicated to the promotion and protection of human rights and the basic freedom of its citizens.

Liu made the remarks after China was elected as a member of the new UN Human Rights Council on May 9 at the U.N. General Assembly.

Liu says that the Chinese Government will fulfill the obligations of International Human Rights Council and dedicate itself to the promotion of human rights.

He says China will join hands with other Council members to support the council in promoting constructive dialogue and cooperation among different countries, cultures and religions and to handle human rights issues fairly and objectively so as to contribute to the development of international human rights.
