The Shanghai Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau has confiscated about 3000 kilograms of smuggled beef.
The beef was sold though agricultural trading markets and food processing companies in the city.
More than 2000 kilograms of the confiscated beef was smuggled from Japan, United States and Canada.
In addition, some small restaurants were found selling counterfeit imported beef products to cheat customers. Most of these restaurants were hotpot restaurants which advertised special American beef, that was really only from China.
