The China National Office of Manufacturing Licenses of Industrial Products says that starting this month, the quality safety sign "QS" will be fixed on a range of industrial products including wines, auto bikes, cosmetics and fertilizers.
With this consumer-friendly action, it is estimated that a third of China's alcohol manufacturers will be washed out.
At present, there are 8472 wine manufacturers with legal operating licenses in China. Starting this November, wines without the "QS" sign will not be allowed to sell on the market. The China National Office of Manufacturing Licenses of Industrial Products expects only 6000 of them will retain their license after November.
