Shandong Provincial government has issued a circular, promising aid to returned overseas Chinese who do not a fixed income.

Enacted on July 1, the provincial government will provide living subsidies to returned overseas Chinese whose registered permanent residences are in Shandong province and who have no retirement pension.

Males above 60 years old and females above 50 can each receive RMB150 every month. Those who are younger but widowed, handicapped or seriously ill can also receive subsidies.

There are over 20000 returned overseas Chinese in Shandong now and the Shandong government says it has been working to provide benefits for them since 1997. The Shandong Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese says it regards this a great accomplishment to provide assistance to underprivileged returned overseas Chinese.
