Beijing To Add 130 Earthquake Stations To Current Network

Wu Weimin, director general of the Beijing Earthquake Bureau, has told local media that 130 earthquake forecast networks will be built to provide accurate forecasts of the location, time and parameter of earthquakes.
The network will surround Beijing and encompass parts of Hebei province and Tianjin.The current earthquake warning system in Beijing can make a preliminary orientation within 4 minutes and the accurate location of earthquake within ten minutes. Wu says that the earthquake inspection level in Beijing still falls behind other major cities in China.
Beijing currently has a network of 70 stations that monitor seismic activity.
Beijing just experienced an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale on July 4, 2006.
