The Lady Mayoress of the City of London, Tessa Brewer, came to Shanghai this past week to help promote the activities of the charity Care for Children.
Michelle Garnaut, owner of famed restaurant 'M on the Bund' and a Director on Care for Children's Hong Kong Board, hosted a lunch in Shanghai for 26 influential business and media personalities in China.
The Lady Mayoress of London reflected on her visit to two of Care for Children's project sites in Chongqing and Chengdu earlier this year. She then applauded long-standing supporters of Care for Children's work, and made an appeal for new supporters to consider Care for Children's expanding work in China. She said that Care for Children's partnership with the Chinese Government represented a perfect model of partnership between the two countries.
Executive Director of Care for Children, Robert Glover OBE, also gave a presentation on Care for Children's 'Vision for a Million' children in families by 2010.
Care for Children began work on its first Foster Care pilot project with the Shanghai Civil Affairs in 1998. Following the initial success in Shanghai, 3 other projects were started in Kunming, Yinchuan and Chengdu. In 2003, Robert Glover received the White Magnolia award from the Shanghai government in recognition for his service to the city.
This visit is the Lady Mayoress' second visit to China this year as part of an official delegation representing the city of London.
