Foreign-invested company Lotus Supermarket has received approval to set up a labor union in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, making it the second trade union for Lotus in mainland China.

Gu Dongwu, vice chairman of the Shaanxi Provincial Federation of Trade Unions, speaks highly of the establishment of labor union at Lotus. He says that it not only offers a place for the employees of Lotus to ask for help, but also symbolizes a breakthrough in the establishment of trade unions in Shaanxi, particularly among foreign companies. He hopes that Lotus can follow the Trade Union Law and create a fine environment for the work of trade unions.

Sun Wenlin was selected as the chairman of the new labor union at Lotus. The first committee of the 7-member trade union and the 3-member economic supervision council has also been formed.

Chia Tai Group's Lotus entered China in 1997 and currently has over 70 stores in China. There are three chain supermarkets of Lotus in Xi'an. The first trade union for Lotus was organized in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province in August 2006.
