Eight leading shopping malls in Beijing have jointly issued a proposal, promising to conduct honest sales promotions.

These eight shopping malls have also each just won gold medals awarded by China's Ministry of Commerce for their respective commitments to ensuring the truthfulness, clarity and understandability of the information in their advertising; adopting marked pricing; advocating marked discounts; and taking the responsibility to repair, change or return products according to local laws and regulations.

The eight shopping malls participating in this activity include Beijing Yansha Youyi Shopping City, Scitech Plaza, Beijing Modern Plaza, Beijing Cuiwei Plaza, and Wangfujiang Department Store.

In recent months, municipalities like Beijing have seen frequent lawsuits brought by consumers who felt they were misled into buying products because of false advertising. Companies targeted in some of these lawsuits included Carrefour, Wal-Mart, and Suning. Responsible consortiums like these within the retail sector will help to rebuild trust among shoppers when they patronize these stores.
