Hong Kong movie star Jackie Chan has launched the "Jackie Chan New Day Environmental Protection Program" in Beijing.

During the recent launch ceremony for the program, an electric bike which was used by Chan in an advertisement was sold for RMB100,000 and the money will be used as the first funds for the program.

Chan says he has always been dedicated to welfare causes and he will continue his welfare project after finishing the current movie Rush Hour 3.

Chan says that he has also initiated a RMB1 Program, calling on a donation of RMB1 by each person to give to poor children who can't afford tuition. He says he will donate RMB1 whenever RMB1 is donated by others. The program has reportedly benefited more than 12000 children all over the world, and he says that he hopes to soon build two Project Hope elementary schools in Inner Mongolia.
