China's Soong Ching Ling Foundation has raised over RMB4.8 million for a study-aid project to support underprivileged undergraduates during its recent welfare auction held in Beijing.
Auctioned items included an autographed picture with the signatures of all the Athens Olympic champions, which was donated by Li Yongbo, head coach of National Badminton team. It sold for RMB200,000. A large landscape painting named "Mountains and Rivers in Lijiang" was sold for RMB700,000. Other works by Li Kuchan, Chen Dayu and Wang Mingming also sold for high prices.
There are about 1.23 million underprivileged college students in China, taking up 8% of the total undergraduates. The Future Project of SCLF had been carried out since 2003, aiming to support the lives of those underprivileged students. Over RMB100 million has been raised since its implementation, and 12 main projects, covering 82 institutions of higher education in more than 30 provinces and regions in China have received assistance.
This welfare auction was undertaken by Libo Auction Company, and all funds raised will be used to support underprivileged college students in need.
The Soong Ching Ling Foundation was established in Beijing on May 29, 1982 in memory of Soong Ching Ling.
