SEPA Targets Michelin For Environmental Problems

China's State Environmental Protection Administration has blamed Shanghai Michelin Warrior Tire Company once again for failing to correct its actions after breaking environmental regulations.

In 2006, SEPA said the global tire failed to follow relevant eco-friendly regulations in China, and this second time SEPA says Michelin has failed to reach the required standards in its manufacturing and waste activities.

A representative from Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau says that they have been supervising and urging Shanghai Michelin Warrior to change its habits, but she says the company has still not passed the most recent assessment.

Michelin (China) Tire Company hasn't responded publicly to this yet. But Pan Yue, deputy director of SEPA, says that Shanghai Michelin Warrior has still not made any tangible progress.

Local media speculate that because there is little profit in the tire industry, companies like Shanghai Michelin Warrior sometimes cut costs in order to increase their bottom lines.

Michelin Group, one of the top Fortune 500 companies, is the world leader in tire technology and innovation. It has established more than 75 factories worldwide and its business covers more than 170 countries. It entered China in 1998.
