Nanjing Customs has unveiled details of a case regarding the trademarks of 20 international brands being violated by Dan Yang Qing Guang Bulb Company.
Qing Guang has just been sentenced by the Medium Court in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province to pay various fines to the companies. Adidas, one of the 20 brands, has received RMB300,000.
On October 19, 2006, Qing Guang declared plans to ship 100,000 fluorescence bulbs overseas. As the Customs officials were investigating the goods, they realized the company was also trying to ship counterfeit brands, including those of global sportswear manufacturer Adidas.
Adidas then lodged a lawsuit at the Medium Court in Zhenjiang, asking the court to have Qing Guang stop the trademark infringement, offer an apology in a local newspaper, and compensate the company RMB300,000.
The Medium Court in Zhenjiang says that Adidas' brand is listed as a protected trademark in China. The court's ruling stated that the trademark infringement by Qing Guang had done great harm to the reputation of Adidas.
There is no word yet if Qing Guang will appeal this decision.
