China National Petroleum Corporation has published its 2006 Corporate Social Responsibility Report.
This is the first CSR report for CNPC. During the past 10 years, its social responsibility initiatives had been instead published as part of the company's annual financial reports. But from now on the company will separate the CSR part of its work into annual corporate social responsibility reports.
Zheng Hu, deputy general manager of CNPC, says that fulfilling social responsibility is an inevitable task for CNPC as it is one part of society. Zheng says the company has been focusing on environmental safety and environmental protection in order to achieve safe manufacturing standards.
Statistics show that CNPC has devoted funds totaling RMB2.5 billion since the 10th Five-Year Plan was initiated. It has been working to help the people in disaster areas and has donated to education causes in China. CNPC has also set up a scholarship fund which has successively supported 2962 outstanding undergraduates and graduate students during the past four years. In addition, CNPC donated RMB10 million to China Disabled Person's Federation in 2006. CNPC was awarded the People's Social Responsibility prize in January 2007.
CNPC is a state-owned company whose business operations cover the domestic market, international trade, technical services, and equipment manufacturing and supplies.
