Alcoa Issues Sustainability Report For China
Alcoa has released its 2006 China Sustainability Report.
Lloyd Jones, president of Alcoa Asia Pacific, said, "Sustainability is not a one-time event. It is a journey based on continuous improvement and an unwavering, action-oriented focus on the end goals. Alcoa's operations in China are in the early stages of the journey. This report will show the progress we have made and the challenges that remain."
Alcoa says integration of its environment, health and safety standards and culture into its facilities in China has resulted in significant reduction of total recordable injuries from 2005.
The company says through the Alcoa Foundation, community service activities increased with more than 400 employees participating in Month of Service projects involving environmental enhancements, education initiatives, and other community events. The Alcoa Community Framework was rolled out in China to further engage Alcoa with local government leadership, NGOs, and other community stakeholders.
