Global Sources has signed an agreement with School of Journalism and Communication of Tsinghua University and the Tsinghua University Education Foundation to house the Global Sources Hall at Tsinghua's School of Journalism & Communication in China.
Global Sources' chairman and CEO, Merle A. Hinrichs, said, "In support of China's fantastic economic growth, the domestic media industry is transforming itself. Global Sources applauds Tsinghua University for offering the Masters in International Business Journalism program at this time. Tsinghua's business journalism program is truly visionary — and one in which Global Sources is delighted to participate."
Global Sources has also agreed to offer scholarships for local and foreign students, and to endow a series of lectures from a visiting professor.
Other companies lending support to the school include Omnicom, Bloomberg, Knight Foundation and Merrill Lynch, all reportedly committed to advancing education, economic development and business transparency.
"Like all effective, sustainable corporate social responsibility programs, these initiatives support our core business and advance our core beliefs. Working with Tsinghua University is a win-win-win proposition for the university, Global Sources and society," said Hinrichs.
Tsinghua University's Dean of School of Journalism and Communication, Professor Jingyi Fan, said, "We thank Global Sources for its generosity and great support for this one-of-a-kind program. The Global Sources Hall should give the faculty and its students a great and convenient place to meet and exchange ideas in the advancement of their studies."
