China Unicom has signed a deal with China Education and Research Network, one of the eight major internet backbone websites in China, to provide large capacity broadband services.
China Unicom has previously been in close cooperation with CERNET, offering it line leasing services. So far, it has provided international transmission source service for CERNET in countries and territories like Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, the U.S. and Britain. The broadband services they cooperate with this time will feature the highest speed trans-border service.
As one of the few backbone websites in China, CERNET provides internet access service for the educational divisions in China. It is funded by the Chinese government and directly managed by the Chinese Ministry of Education.
