Kou Xiaowei, a deputy director from China's General Administration of Press and Publication, has told local media that GAPP would soon announce a management measure on online publications.
This move is meant to regulate the fast growing sector. Latest statistics from GAPP show that the total annual sales revenue of China's online publications has exceeded RMB13 billion and it has created about RMB150 billion in additional value by driving up numbers in the related industries.
The "China Online Publication Development Status and Policy", recently released by GAPP, shows that as the world's second largest country in terms of Internet users, China's online publication sector is developing and being made popular by the development of Internet services. It has already covered all the sectors of the traditional publishing service. According to Kou, GAPP's standard for online publications plans to adopt an approval and permission system for the sector.
