The China National Tourism Administration has for the first time published a blacklist of domestic hotels which includes up to 800 hotels across China and most of these hotels have had their star grade qualifications revoked.

According to local media, 78 Guangdong Hotels have been included on the list, including 10 from Guangzhou, 29 from Shenzhen, and four from Zhuhai. Shenzhen Bay Hotel and Guangzhou New Century Hotel are among the four-star hotels on the blacklist.

Apart from the Guangzhou hotels, the other 68 Guangdong hotels include Shenzhen's Shenzhen Bay Hotel, Xili Hotel Shenzhen, Far East Hotel, Feng Yuan Hotel, Jiangjian Hotel, Yuetong Shiji Hotel, Camp David Club, Hengfeng Hotel, Luohu Hotel, Lijiangchun Hotel, Xin Ming Zhu Hotel, Jiahao Hotel, Tianzi Henghuahai Hotel, Huang Gang Hotel, CTS Hotel, Jialv Hotel, Mingdu Hotel, Shenzhen Wenshanhu Hotel, Ganglong Hotel, Huaqiao Hotle, Chengyuan Hotel, Xiangmihu Holiday Resort, Yicheng Industrial Company Hotel, Luofang Hotel, Qiushuishan Park Resort, Longgang Huidu Hotel, Jicheng Hotel, and Caifu Hotel.

CNTA previoously allowed hotels to retain their star-grade qualifications for the life of the hotels. However in 2004, CNTA changed this policy because of diminishing quality issues at some hotels.
