SFDA Emphasizes Olympic Food Safety

China's State Food and Drug Administration is focusing on ensuring quality Olympic food and drug safety.
The SFDA has held a seminar on ensuring Olympic food and drug safety in Beijing. The Food Safety Office and food and drug regulatory departments of the host city Beijing and co-host cities as Tianjin, Shanghai, Qingdao, Shenyang and Qinhuangdao of 2008 Olympic Games, as well as relevant departments of SFDA communicated the preparatory work for Olympic food and drug safety guarantee, specified the main works next, discussed how to further enhance food and drug supervision and administration to ensure 2008 Olympic food and drug safety. SFDA Commissioner Shao Mingli attended the seminar and delivered a speech.
SFDA Commissioner Shao Mingli stressed that the food and drug regulatory departments of the host city and co-host cities of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games must be aware of the significance of Olympic food and drug safety supervision and administration. With ensuring Olympic food and drug safety as an opportunity, all shall enhance food and drug special rectification efforts, severely combat illegal and regulation-violating activities. The supervision and administration shall be enhanced to all-roundly uplift food and drug safety supervision and administration level, effectively guarantee the food and drug safety for the public to create a good market and consumption environment for the successful holding of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
As Beijing is the host city of 2008 Olympic Games, Beijing Food Safety Supervision and Coordination Office will take the advantage of the opportunity to improve a citywide three-level food safety monitoring network and extend food safety supervision to the grassroots. A food safety coordination system is established in 308 towns and townships and sub-districts and more than 500 residents' committees.
In order to construct a modern Olympic food safety guarantee system, Beijing has established a food safety traceability system, conducted Olympic food doping control and methodology research, constructed Olympic food safety inspection system, established the food safety guarantee team, formulated Olympic food safety standard, initiated Olympic food safety monitoring system, and implemented Olympic food safety pre-contest monitoring.
