USITC Initiates Anti-Dumping Investigation Of Chinese Tyres

The United States International Trade Commission has issued a preliminary decision that some of China's off-road tyres impose substantial harm or threat to the American tyre industry, and they will therefore continue to conduct an investigation on the reverse-subsidy and anti-dumping of these type of tyres.

This time, the U.S plans to investigate new pneumatic tires exclusively designed for off-road and off-highway use, which are generally used for farming and forestry institutions, construction equipment and industrial equipment. USITC says a final report on the investigation will be released on September 17.

Anti-dumping investigations are a common measure that the United States uses for keeping China's exported goods in check. Since last year, there have been more and more such investigations on the trade between China and the United States. Wang Xinpei, a spokesperson from China's Ministry of Commerce, said the anti-dumping investigations are conducted so frequently by the United States that they are an abuse of the relevant WTO rules and are unfair to China's industries and do no good for the bilateral trade relations between the two countries.

On June 18, 2007, Titan Tire and a few trade unions filed a petition with the U.S. Department of Commerce and ITC, which resulted in this investigation of China-made tyres.
