Unilever China has been fined RMB100,000 and ordered to make changes to its business as a result of illegal waste water emissions in Hefei.
According to local media, a representative from the State Environment Protection Administration says in May this year, Unilever China was found to be emitting waste water. The company was then asked to improve its waste water processing facilities to make sure that it conformed to relevant standards.
Unilever has reportedly already cut the connection between the water pump and the tube that was accused of emitting the water, installed a COD online testing device, transformed the waste water processing facilities and conducted a real-time monitoring on the water emission.
Set up in January 1996, Unilever China entered Hefei's Economic and Technology Development Zone in September 2002. The company is mainly engaged in lavation products, hair solution and tea making.
