Shaanxi Encourages College Students To Work At Grassroots

Shaanxi Province will offer RMB6000 in aid each year to college students who choose to work in the medical sector or teaching sector in the rural areas.

Seventeen institutions of higher learning in Shaanxi, including Xi'an Jiaotong University, will adopt this new measure which is open to undergraduates majoring in medicine or teaching and who possess excellent academic records and are in good health.

Each of the students who are willing to work in the medical or educational sectors in the rural areas according to the agreements shall receive annual educational aid of RMB6000. Students from teaching universities will be given four years' aid and those from medical universities shall receive the funding for 3-5 years.

Students who receive the fund aid will sign an agreement with Shaanxi Provincial Personnel Department. Those who major in education shall work at the grassroots level for no less than five years and those majoring in medicine shall work there for over six years.
