Gordon Campbell, the governor general of Canada's British Columbia, arrived in Shanghai for a one-day visit to promote the province's environmental technology.
His journey to the Middle Kingdom was meant to pave the way for making British Columbia into a part of the Canada's Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative.
Campbell says he is pleased to see China's promulgation of its Renewable Energy Middle and Long Term Development Planning, in which the country sets the goal of making the consumption of such renewable energy as wind power, solar power, hydropower and biomass power account for 15% of its total energy consumption by 2020.
Canada's Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor is a transportation infrastructure system which aims to create a convenient channel between the western coast of North America and Asian continent. It is expected that the transportation time between the two regions can be reduced by two days after the completion of this project.
