At a press conference in Sanya, Julia Morley, chairperson of the Miss World Organization; Maki Mandela, Nelson Mandela's eldest daughter; and Mandla Mandela, his grandson, delivered powerful speeches about the need for the world to unite against the stigma and spread of HIV/AIDS. World Aids Day was on December 1, the day of the Miss World Final in Sanya Beauty Crown Theatre, and the Mandelas were special guests: Maki is one of the Miss World Pageant judges, while Mandla introduced a special televised World Aids Day message from his grandfather, Nelson Mandela.
