Haier Plans Multiple Project Hope Schools In Beijing

Haier Group says that it will build a Project Hope School for each gold medal won by Chinese athletes during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and name the schools after the respective medal winners.

At the initiation ceremony for the campaign in Beijing, Zhou Yunjie, vice president of Haier Group, spoke of Haier's concept as an Olympic host as well as how the company prepares to be a good host for the 2008 Olympic Games.

Haier says that in order to encourage and award Chinese athletes for their endeavors, it will give a whole set of home appliances to each athlete who wins a gold medal and donate money to build a Project Hope primary school with the name of the athlete in the hopes of bringing the Olympic spirit to the children in the Project Hope school.

According to China Youth Development Foundation, Haier has donated over RMB500 million in funds and in-kind goods for the social welfare sector and up to RMB160 million to educational causes. It has also supported the establishment of 78 Project Hope schools in China.
