China Releases HIV/AIDS Prevention Report

China's Ministry of Health has released a report on China's HIV/AIDS prevention, in which it estimates that there will be about 700,000 HIV/AIDS carriers and patients in China by the end of this year and sexual transmission has become the major means of transmission of the disease.
The report, which is called "China HIV/AIDS Prevention and United Evaluation Report 2007", says that China will have about 700,000 HIV/AIDS carriers and patients by the end of 2007. In other words, there are five persons contracted with HIV/AIDS virus among every 10,000 Chinese. The report also says that among the newly increased 50,000 HIV/AIDS infected people for this year, 44.7% have contracted with the disease by opposite sex transmission and 12.2% by homosexual male sexual transmission.
To strengthen the prevention of HIV/AIDS, China's central finance department has increased the special outlay for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment from RMB854 million in 2006 to RMB944 million in 2007, and the prevention measures and education on the disease have been furthered nationwide.
