The China Charity Donation Analysis Report 2007 released by Zhongmin Charity Donation Information Center and the Charity Coordination Office of China's Ministry of Civil Affairs, the first of its kind ever released by the official department, shows that in 2007 China received a total of RMB22.316 billion in funds and in-kind donations from the public and enterprises, which was an increase of 123% compared with that of the previous year.
In the same period, China received RMB8.609 billion in overseas donations, RMB35.6 billion lottery-related welfare funds and more than RMB20 billion in social responsibility investment, which made the total funds of China's charity market reach about RMB86.5 billion, accounting for 0.35% of the country's total GDP.
According to the report, in 2007 citizens donated RMB3.2 billion and up to 60% of the donations were used for study aid, poverty relief and disaster relief. Government was still the main promoter of the donation market.
In 2008, China's charity community will set out to do three main tasks. First, to set up modern charity organization structure, in particular, to build up grassroots donation platforms in communities and rural areas. Second, it will make a set of charity donation evaluation standards to conduct monthly and annual evaluations on charity work. Third, they will pay attention to the development of charity projects and try to create some influential charity and donation brands.
