Beijing, China (August 03, 2009) /ChinaNewswire.com/ — For the third year running, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, Asia Pacific's leading luxury hotel group, has organised a nationwide charity mooncake sale. The sale will start at the end of July 2009 through 3 October 2009, and will benefit Care for Children, a Beijing-based charity organisation that helps rebuild orphaned or under privileged children's lives through foster care.

A total of 27 Shangri-La and Traders hotels will join forces in this fund-raising activity. Previous years' efforts, in 2007 and 2008, resulted in total sales of around 80,000 boxes of charity mooncakes and helped raise more than RMB3 million (USD452,838) for Care for Children.

Four mooncakes in two assorted flavours, in red and white lotus paste, will be packaged in specially designed Shangri-La metal mooncake boxes in striking silver and red, priced at RMB138 each box. From every box of charity mooncakes sold, RMB40 will be donated to Care for Children.

Established in 1998, Care for Children works in partnership with local governments to introduce foster care and other strategic initiatives for orphans and other needy Chinese children. Today, Care for Children is active in over 220 orphanages throughout China and has helped place thousands of Chinese children living in orphanages into Chinese foster homes. Shangri-La became Care for Children's first and only hotel group corporate partner in 2005. For more information on the charity, please visit www.careforchildren.com.
