In celebration of International Consumer Rights Day on March 15, the China Consumers' Association has issued its 10 principles for corporate social responsibility in China, and has asked companies to be more responsible to consumers.

The 10 principles are legal compliance, information disclosure, price transparency, fair competition, production safety, after-sales services, well defined dispute settlement mechanisms, respect for privacy, customer communication, energy efficiency and sustainable development.

46 Chinese companies have already announced their support for these principles, including China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom, China Netcom, China Tietong, Haier, China Life Insurance, Mengniu and Zhongkai Group. Interestingly, Haier was recently removed from the United Nations Global Compact for not complying with the Compact's requirements.

Mu Jianhua, standing deputy director of CAA, says that Chinese society has increased requirements for corporate social responsibility and enterprises must take full responsibility for consumers, their employees, their shareholders, the community and environment when they are trying to maximize their profits.
