China's National Development and Reform Commission has published its second automobile fuel consumption index which shows that 444 types of cars made by 55 manufacturers are unqualified.
Local media report that the NDRC has asked that all these types of cars not be manufactured in the future. The manufacturers of unqualified cars include such famous ones as Shanghai Volkswagon, Shanghai GM, Beijing Hyundai, Beijing Benz and Changhe Suzuki. Some of these manufacturers are said to be responsible for as many as over 20 types of unqualified cars, while Beijing Hyundai is only responsible for one type, but the names of the cars have not been disclosed.
In November 2006, NDRC published the fuel consumption data of 409 types of cars made by 34 manufacturers, and that was known as the first batch of data. The data result raised a lot of doubts from the car manufacturers as it was different from the one provided by the car manufacturers and dealers.
Similar to that first time, the data published now has also caused wide concern among the media and the public.
